Okay, here's the rules according to Simone.
"The player of this game starts with "5 weird things/habits about yourself." In the end you need to choose 5 critters to be tagged and list their names. Those tagged are to write a blog about their 5 weird things/habits, as well as state this rule clearly before taggin' 5 more victims. Leave 'em a note that says "you're tagged!" in their comments and tell them to read your blog."
My 5 Things:

1. My full name is The Reverend Doctor Frodo Hufflepuff (Rufbunny) Baird V, Viscount d'Earneax. My parents had a naming contest where their friends submitted names and it got a little absurd.

2. My Mamma mentions me and my Christmas Tree fetish every year in her Christmas sermon at church.

3. I really like playing and digging in the snow--plus you can't get fleas in Winter. And there are less cats--I got jumped by a stray cat in our back yard while momma and I were taking a walk on a leash--scary! Good thing Momma was there to protect me.

4. I once shredded 4 of my Mamma's favorite skirts/dresses while they hung in the closet. That was the end of my days sleeping in the bedroom with Mamma and Daddy. I can't help it if i get bored at night cause they won't play with me. Stupid humans, why do you sleep ALL night? My record for fastest destruction of Mamma's skirt occurred a few months ago when I chewed a 2-inch hole in it while she was wearing it. She was sitting at the kitchen table playing a game with Daddy and I hopped up right behind her and demanded attention. Mamma's long skirts are fun to play with. I like to run in and out of them and use them like a tent.

5. I have chewed through 2 plastic baby gates and one screen door. Mamma and Daddy reinforced them with wire mess and I can't chew through them no matter how hard I try. I'm just trying to go visit my old pal Shaggy, the bishon frise from our old neighborhood and the only dog i ever liked.

Now for Samwise:

1. Samwise always picks the frisee out of her salads to eat first. Though most of the time she waits to eat hers until the humans are a safe distance away and Frodo has forgotten that he ever had a salad so she can tease him through the fence.

2. She was adopted from the HRS so we never had any hard evidence on her previous life before her fostering in Columbus. We are pretty sure though that Samwise got her streetsmarts during her short stint as a circus acrobunny! She flips her little dwarf-mix body so fast and furiously whenever you try to pick her up or trim her claws that she must have been a professional at one point in time. But unfortunately she's not confirming this theory or any other.

3. Sam's tail is so small that you can hardly ever see it unless she flops or you pick her up and examine it. We've asked her if it got bitten off by a crocodile and she just sniffs.

4. Samwise grunts and growls more than Frodo. We think that the noises mean "Stop cleaning up MY mess!" While Frodo's quieter grunts mean "I love you now feed me a banana!"

5. Samwise loves to lick pillows but will not lick humans. Unlike Frodo who is a little stingy sometimes with the reciprocal affection but will comply with a lick or two, if you ask Sam for a kiss she might touch her nose to your finger briefly and then hop away. It always makes her Bunny Mamma smile!

The Bunnies want to know, Can we go back to eating organic spinach again?
According to this article the tainted spinach was conventionally grown, not organic. Hopefully the FDA will act soon to get the safe spinach products back on the market. Even Mama and Daddy miss their spinach. Who knew?! The Bunnies have been eating homegrown parsley and basil in the meantime.

HRS card for Killer Bunnies Game

This is Momma's favorite card so far, of course. We adopted Samwise from the House Rabbit Society. She was in foster care and needed a good home. This card features the HRS logo (which kinda looks like Sam) and will probably work well in the game play (last time they played Grampa Baird had 7 bunnies in the Bunny Circle and most of the other players had none. Momma had the holographic bunny, but couldn't win the game without a real one!). It's meant to simulate the real need of bunny lovers to adopt a bunny from a foster program instead of purchasing a baby bunny from the pet store!

If you've never read Watership Down (or at least seen the movie) you'll have no idea who this very special rabbit is. He is the legendary rabbit prince with a thousand enemies from rabbit mythology. You pronounce his name something like "Ella-rare-ra" with rolled r's of course. Momma and Daddy are now reading Tales From Watership Down and there are lots of stories about him in there. He can steal cabbage from anyone and no ordinary weapon is likely to kill him (unless it uses the 20-sided die!) since in this card he has 10 lucky clovers to protect him.

Momma used her own rabbit cartoon style on this card instead of the more Killer Bunnies-like style of the Lint Roller.

Momma is making some new additions to Daddy's Killer Bunnies game. She bought some Bunny Blanks for $6 at the game store in Kettering and so far has made three. She plans to add Samwise and me into the game too but we won't pose for her!
Here's her first one: The Dreaded Lint Roller. She got her inspiration from us of course. We're shedding again and she has to use the lint roller on us sometimes beacause none of our brushes work. Of course we try to run away from it! We like to groom ourselves.

Frodo: Momma thinks i should be improving my vocabulary. Daddy still insists that I only speak French and that's why he can't understand me. So I picked a word that is based on a French word. I like the part about the salad plate, but not the meat, anchovies, eggs, onions and dressing, yuck!

Momma's report:
I've been wearing my chocolate bunny pin at church and getting lots of comments and questions. Now that we have Samwise (most likely an abandoned Easter bunny) it makes it a lot easier to talk about the importance of not giving in and getting your kids a bunny for Easter. I always ask them if they are ready to get a cat or dog since a rabbit will quickly grow into the equivalent of an unhousebroken puppy when the adolescent hormones kick in.

Bunny's grocery list

Having a rabbit as a companion pet can be good for your waistline and for your heart. Our family no longer buys iceberg lettuce since it is not good food for bunnies (who get their fair share and all the soon to go brown leftovers!). We eat the much healthier romaine, leaf lettuce, endive, escarole, butter lettuce, kale and spinach instead (I buy frisee just for Sam who loves it so much that its fun to watch her eat it!).
I have an herb garden that the bunnies help to fertilize and I grow some of the lettuces and greens myself as well as fresh and delicious herbs such as cilantro, parsley, basil, mint, and lemon balm. These are all great for adding a little gourmet into your cooking and the mint makes excellent tea! We were never this healthy in our eating choices before the bunnies. I eat healthier snacks--Frodo and I like to share a pear and I even find myself munching on the carrots that I use to treat the buns during clicker training.

Momma's report:
So far its working great. Frodo can still chew on it if he likes but he seems to love hiding in it and snacking on the hay we put for him twice daily in the box. The fit is just perfect--snug enough that it stays on and easily removes for cleaning the litterbox. It also saves us floor space and looks better in our kitchen than a regular litterbox!

It's that time of year again--a special Ash Wednesday Message to everybody thinking of purchasing a pet rabbit for Easter.

Each year, unwanted, former Easter rabbits fill local rabbit rescues and humane societies. Help spread the word that rabbits are NOT disposable pets.
Before you bring a pet rabbit into your home at Easter, please consider these facts:

• Rabbits are NOT low-maintenance pets! They require as much work as a dog or cat.
• Rabbits can live 8 to 10 years, sometimes longer.
• The necessary spay or neuter can cost $100 or more, and rabbits require routine veterinary care.
• Rabbits are not cuddly — they can become frightened when held!
• Pet rabbits cannot be set “free” — it’s a death sentence.

I know, long time, no blogging! Momma has been busy clicker training me every since she read about it in the HRS journal. I think she's trying to make me into a lap bunny. She started by clicking everytime I ate a treat. Then she made me touch a bell with my nose for each click-treat. Now I have to jump up into her lap and ring the bell for a click-treat. Not a bad deal. Sam's afraid of the clicker though--we'll have to come up with something else for her.

Sam and I must have been really good this year because "the big Santa Bun" brought us a lot of busy bunny goodies. Most of the smaller ones have already been demolished--yum! I got a willow tent for my room (Sam already got her cardboard house early). We both got grass mats, a basket of apple sticks, a christmas tree shaped willow basket full of hay and willow balls (mostly gone already--including the basket I've been working on it every night). Some willow candy canes and toss rings and a bunny ornament.

Our Christmas Tree is back!

Our Christmas tree is back and decorated with little crystal beaded bunnies. There's even a new tree skirt to destroy. I wonder where it goes the other 11 months of the year? It smells like the garage. Sorry, no pictures yet.

Sam and I have been fighting (for some unknown reason) since the summer. So our mommy and daddy have to keep them separated (Sam got the bunny room--I have to make do with the kitchen). They want us to get along again like we used to so they make us go on bunny dates. They might sound like fun, but they aren't. We have to ride in the back of the car with Mommy as referee and we get so scared we put our differences behind us and cuddle. Mommy wants to take a picture of the mass of quivering bunny on her lap after 5 minutes in the car. We went on one last night. I heard something about "going to buy Harry Potter tickets" but I didn't know what that was about. Mommy and Daddy seem to have fun--they even stopped for ice cream--but Sam and I just wait for it to be over. We also have dates on the porch swing. We sit together in between Mommy and Daddy as they swing. We don't like being suspended from the ground and moving to we take comfort in each other. Bunny Bonding is hard work!
